I have submitted an application form to Tullos Training Ltd, what happens next?
Once you have submitted your application to Tullos Training Ltd, we will review your application and then you will be invited to come and sit our aptitude test to assess your skills. You will receive an email invite with a date and time for you to attend the centre for an aptitude test session.
What is an aptitude test?
There are various different types of aptitude tests available such as numerical reasoning, mechanical comprehension, situational judgement etc. Employers use aptitude tests to help them narrow down their applicants and see if a candidate is suitable for the position they have within their company.
Our aptitude test includes a series of General Knowledge, Mathematics and English based questions to assess your skills in these areas. This helps employers get a better picture of your knowledge ability.
Skills Development Scotland have a very informative section on their website which can be accessed using the following link – https://www.myworldofwork.co.uk/getting-job/aptitude-tests. This will provide you with further information on the different types of aptitude tests you may come across on your search for an apprenticeship and tips to help you pass.
The below practice tests include similar types of questions to what you may encounter in our Tullos Training aptitude tests:
BPEC Aptitude Test – https://bpec.org.uk/learners/aptitude-test/
Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Aptitude Test – https://www.assessmentday.co.uk/mechanical-reasoning.htm and https://www.jobtestprep.co.uk/free-bennett-test-and-study-guide
What happens during the aptitude test session?
Each session lasts approx. 90 minutes. You will be given a multiple choice test paper which you will be allocated 45 minutes to complete. You will be provided with pen, ruler and calculator by Tullos Training for completing the test.
The invigilator of the test session will then mark your test paper confidentially.
If you are success in passing the aptitude test you will be given a short interview. This enables us to chat to your about your goals, skills, apprenticeship types and answer any questions you may have about Modern Apprenticeships.
Interviewing wait times varies depending on the number of candidates attending the aptitude test session.
This is not a formal interview but you should treat it as practice for interview skills, therefore dress and act appropriately. This is your opportunity to allow Tullos Training staff to get a better understanding of yourself and your skills to help match you with a potential employer.
If you are unsuccessful in passing the aptitude test the invigilator will provide you with further information on next steps.
I passed the Tullos Training Ltd aptitude test, what happens now?
After the test session you will receive an email confirming that you were successful and have been added to the employer pairing database. This will explain that we will keep your application on file for 18 months and forward your details onto any employer who may be requiring apprentices in your area.
Employers will contact you directly should they wish to progress your application to the next stage in their recruitment process. This may include an interview, tour of premises, practical aptitude test etc.
We strongly suggest that you are continuously checking your e-mails as employers are most likely to contact you by e-mail. However, it is also important that you are answering your phone, even if you don’t recognise the number, as some employer may still choose to contact you this way.
It is important to note that joining our employer pairing database is not an offer or guarantee of an apprenticeship. We would recommend that you actively encourage you to approach potential employers as not vacancies will be recruited through ourselves. Some employers require you to complete their application process. However, you may make any potential employer aware that you have passed the Tullos Training Aptitude Test and that you may be eligible for funding to pay for your apprenticeship training.
Useful websites to help you find a Modern Apprenticeship include:
Remember to follow Tullos Training on social media to keep up-to-date with any vacancies that may be of interest to you.
I failed the Tullos Training Ltd aptitude test, what happens now?
If you are unsuccessful in passing the aptitude test on your first attempt, you will be offered a resit opportunity on another date.
If after your second attempt you are unsuccessful in passing the aptitude test, we will place your application on hold for 3 months. This allows you to gain experience, practice and knowledge prior to reapplication. You will receive an email after your resit test session informing you of when you can reapply.
If you have any questions regarding your test, please contact the centre at applications@tullostraining.co.uk.
How long does it take to find an apprenticeship?
Modern Apprenticeships are in high demand, therefore, we cannot guarantee to find you an apprenticeship.
There is no specific time frame on how long it takes to find an apprenticeship. Some of our candidates have been employed by companies within a few weeks of having passed the test, others can take a few months.
You shouldn’t worry if you haven’t heard from us or any companies. Modern Apprenticeships can start at anytime through the year. Employers are constantly recruiting and candidates should continue to actively seek apprenticeships.
Stay positive throughout your search and don’t feel discouraged by rejection as the next opportunity could be right around the corner.
What happens if I haven't found a Modern Apprenticeship within 18 months?
If you haven’t found an apprenticeship whilst on our database, after 18 months from your aptitude test pass date, your application will be automatically removed from our system. This is to keep our database up-to-date for employers.
We welcome anyone who has not found an apprenticeship during this time to reapply and update your application form with any changes to personal details, qualifications and work experience. You will then be invited to complete the aptitude test and interview process again as we feel that candidates may have improved knowledge and communication skills which will help them improve their aptitude test score and interview responses.
How do I withdraw my application form?
To withdraw your application form, please send an email to applications@tullostraining.co.uk clearly stating that you wish to withdraw your application form. You can include a reason if you wish, however, this is not necessary.
If you wish to update any details on your application, please contact the centre.
