Foundation Apprenticeship
Foundation Apprenticeships in Engineering are work-based learning programmes designed to equip you with real-world work experience in addition to your school education. The aim of this course is to develop your practical skills and an understanding of the engineering industry. Please note the Engineering Foundation Apprenticeship is a 2-year course and you must be committed to completing the full course.
A Foundation Apprenticeship is on the same level of learning as an SQA Higher (SCQF level 6) and sits alongside other school-based qualifications as one of your Senior Phase options.
- Year 1 – Equivalent of one day (6 hours) per week in a classroom, working towards the National Certificate qualifications.
- Year 2 – In addition to the outstanding classroom studies you will have the equivalent of one day (6-8 hours) per week in an extended work placement environment at Tullos Training, where you will be working towards the SVQ units and also have the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge acquired from the classroom to a practical, working environment.
The minimum entry requirement for studying a Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering is National 5 Maths. Qualification’s in science subjects are desirable but not essential.
Each Foundation Apprenticeship has been designed in partnership with industry to make sure that young people obtain the sector relevant skills and knowledge required to make the first steps on the career ladder.
In partnership with Aberdeenshire Council, we are currently offering the Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering to pupils at Portlethen Academy and Westhill Academy. If you are interested in completing this qualification, please speak to your guidance teacher or school careers advisor.
